They could be getting disability benefits!
Disability, Education, Age, Work History & Resources are the determining factors.
Disability
Are they permanently disabled and completely unable to work?
Education
Were they ever in Special Ed? Did they complete High School or drop out?
Age
Are they 65 or older? (They are automatically eligible for SSI with proof of age, no resources, and US citizenship) Ages 50-60 can be eligible for SSI/SSDIB depending on the severity of their disability.
Work History
Have they been totally unable to work? Were they able to work 5 out of the 10 years leading up to their disability?
Resources
Do you know them to have little resources to their name? I.E. under $2,000 in possessions and property, or not able to afford much outside of medical treatments.
